Kothmann-Eldon Kothmann, of Mason, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, at the age of 67. Eldon is survived by his wife Carol Kothmann of Mason, a daughter Kaci Kothmann of Menard, a sister Glenda Kothmann of Fredericksburg a brother Sidney Kothmann and wife Jane of Dallas, aunts and uncle Elvira Godwin of Brownwood and Olga and Stanley Kothe of Fredericksburg, a niece Jennifer Delp of Dallas and a nephew Konrad Kothmann of Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew Keith Michael Walsh.A memorial service celebrating Eldon’s life will be held on Monday, November 21, at 4:00 p.m. at the pavilion in Fort Mason Community Park. This will be followed by a pot luck dinner at the Community Building in the park. In case of bad weather the service and the dinner will both be held in the Community Building. Private interment of Eldon’s cremated remains will take place earlier in the day on Monday.

Marshall-John Alton Marshall (JA)- 97, passed into Eternal Life on October 20, 2011 in Austin, Texas. As a young man, he was a vocational agriculture teacher in Holland, Tx. Later he joined the Texas Education Agency and during W.W. II was the Supervisor of the War Production Training Program. He later became an Area Supervisor of Vocational Agriculture Education and eventually became the State Director of Vocational Agriculture for the Texas Education Agency. He was instrumental in the activities of the Future Farmers of America organization and in furthering agricultural education in the state of Texas. He maintained contact with many of these teachers and FFA leaders until the end of his life. Funeral services will be held at Memorial United Methodist Church, 6100 Berkman Drive, Austin, TX 78723, under the direction of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, on Monday, October 24, 2011 at one o'clock in the afternoon. Visitation will precede the service from half-past twelve until one o'clock in the afternoon. Burial will be at four o'clock in the afternoon at the Holland City Cemetery, Holland, Texas.

Fields  - Scott Fields, agriculture science teacher at Ingram High School, passed away on Thursday, September 22 after a battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds on Highway 16 in Fredericksburg on Sunday, September 25 at 2:00 p.m. Fields was a member of the VATAT for twenty-three years.

 

Brazil - Ernest Leon Brazil, 87, of Celeste, passed away on February 16, 2011 in McKinney, Texas. He served for 39 years as a teacher, coach, principal and retired as a vocational director for McKinney ISD in 1983. Brazil was an Honorary Life member of the VATAT.

 

Counsil - Jennifer Counsil, 32, passed away on March 2, 2011. Jennifer was an agriculture teacher at Huntsville High. She also was FFA Advisor, Equine Judging Team Coach, Livestock Judging Team Coach and a member of the VATAT. Services for Jennifer will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church in Huntsville with burial at Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Mt. Tabor Community, Madison County, Texas. Family will receive friends Tuesday, March 8, 2011, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville. Robinson - Richard Robinson, 69, passed away on Wednesday, February 23, 2011. Robinson was a former Vocational Agriculture Teacher and Vocational Director at Hereford High School. Robinson was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Hereford, where he also served as a deacon. The family suggests memorials be to First Presbyterian Church, 610 Lee Ave., Hereford, TX 79045.
 
Brown - J.W. "Jay" Brown, 83, passed away on February 16, 2011. Brown was a former agricultural science teacher first in Alfalfa, Okla., then Weatherford I.S.D., and eventually he retired from Arlington I.S.D. In addition to teaching, Brown also was a stagecoach builder and was employed by Wells Fargo in the production of stagecoaches. http://weatherforddemocrat.com/obituaries/x1405847998/J-W-Brown.
 
Gunn - Danny Gunn, Idalou Agricultural Science Instructor, was killed in an accident at the San Antonio Livestock Show on February 12, 2011. Mr. Gunn taught at Klondike, Lamesa and most recently at Idalou. A burial service will be held on Wednesday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m. at the Terrace Cemetery east of Post, Texas on U.S. Highway 380 (this is the highway to Clairemont, Jayton and Aspermont).This is not a private service, but the public memorial for students and others will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the Post High School Gymnasium, Antelope Arena. Post High School is located at 200 West 6th Street. The gymnasium's front is on 3rd street.A memorial scholarship fund has been set up in Danny’s honor. Please send all memorial contributions to:

Manning - Johnny Manning passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2010. Manning was a longtime Area VIII agriculture science teacher in Corsicana, Texas. He was also an Honorary Life member of the VATAT. There will be a memorial service for him on December 17, 2010 at the Fannie Mea Vernon Room at 12:00 in Corsicana. The Vernon Room is locate At the Navarro County Youth Expo Center.Mathis - Ronald Gene Mathis passed away at the age of 57 on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, in Austin, Texas.  Ronnie was born in Houston,HouTexas, on October 9, 1952.  Preceding him in death were his father, Thomas Mathis, Sr., and son, Bradley Mathis. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and daughters, Dana Mathis of Katy, Megan Marak and husband, Chris, of Katy;  his mother, Alice Mathis of Schulenburg; one brother, Tommy Mathis and wife, Mary Nell, of Crowell, Texas; one sister, Cathy Willhoite, of Dripping Springs; and several nieces and nephews.Ronnie graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a degree in Vocational Agriculture and went on to obtain his Masters.  He began his teaching career at Samuel Clemens High School in Schertz, Texas, where he taught for five years, before moving back home to teach at Schulenburg High School  for twenty-three years.  During his teaching career, he taught vocational agriculture, biology, was in charge of the school work program, the FFA, the VAC Program, and was a member of the Region XIII Special Education Transition Team.  Ronnie retired from teaching in March, 2004.Services were held on Saturday, September 25, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Schulenburg, followed by interment in the Schulenburg City Cemetery.  Pastor Lance Freeman officiated. Close friends, Mike Bonner and Robert Pohl, shared special memories of Ronnie’s life.  Former student, Kari Ginn,  honored him with her beautiful voice and guitar music.  Pallbearers were brothers-in-law Gene Kahanek, Daniel Kahanek, Alvin Kahanek, Darrell Kahanek, and Joe Shows; cousins Darby Byrd and Steve Fehrenkamp; and close friend, Robert Moentnish.  Honorary pallbearers were Mike Bonner, Robert Pohl, Robert Fowlkes, James Holub, Steven Willhoite, Mark Stang, John Dodson, Stephen Matula, and Tim Smith.Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.  Memorials may be made to the Bradley Mathis Memorial Scholarship Fund or The American Cancer Society.

Seitz - Diana Seitz, wife of Mark Seitz, passed away at her home Saturday, October 30, 2010, surrounded by her family. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 3rd, at Greenwood Cemetery in Fredericksburg, with a reception immediately following at Luckenbach Dance Hall. Schatter's Funeral Home of Fredericksburg will be handling the service. Mark and his family appreciate all of your kind thoughts and prayers during this time. 

Dudley - Beverly Stubblefield Dudley, Jr., 89, of Ranger, Texas passed away December 16, 2009. Mr. Dudley was born in 1920 in Plano, to Beverly S. Dudley, Sr. and Ola Mae Horn. He attended Ranger Junior College and Texas A&M University, graduating in 1942. As an agriculture science teacher, Mr. Dudley began teaching at Ranger High School in 1950, and he would continue in this position until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Dudley also served in various capacities in the First United Methodist Church of Ranger.

 

Aldrete - Dagoberto Aldrete, 77, passed away on August 23, 2010 in McAllen, Texas. He was born on September 13, 1932 in Hebbronville to Donaciano Aldrete and Carolina Garcia Aldrete. Dagoberto was an Honorary Life member of the VATAT after teaching agriculture science for 44 years.

Cook  - George Wesley Cook, Jr., 84, of Newton, Texas died Thursday, June 24 at Holiday Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Woodville after a lengthy illness. A native of Brownsboro, Texas, he had made his home in Newton since 1948. Mr. Cook taught Vocational Agriculture at Newton High School for 38 years, was a faculty advisor for the Newton FFA and was a founding member of the Newton County Fair Association. He was also a past Newton Fire Chief and Newton City Fire Marshal and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Fannie Tergerson Cook and brothers Rudolph, Neilan and Leon Cook and sisters Fayrene Youngblood, Hazel Wyatt, and Sue Olsowski. Survivors include his wife, Mona Shirley Cook of Newton, Sons George W. “Bubba” Cook, III of Princeton, TX and Kevin Cook of Newton, and Daughters Annie Jo Cook of Woodville and Rebecca Cook Dougharty of Jasper, a sister Ruth Cook Adams of Warren, special friends Betty “Titter” and Harold Hogan of Newton, seven grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Visitation was held from 10:00 am until 1:00 PM on Monday, June 28 at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with services to follow there with burial at the Rock Hill Cemetery near Brownsboro around 5:00 PM. Becker - Robert Becker, retired Agriculture Science teacher from Brownfield in Area II, has passed away. The viewing will be held Thursday, August 5 at the Brownfield Funeral Home. The funeral services will be held Friday, August 6 at the First Christian Church in Brownfield.

Griffitt - W.C. "Griff" Griffitt , 89-year-old Leonard resident, passed away in March 2010. He had a masters of science degree and he worked for many years as a vocational agricultural teacher for the Leonard Independent School District.

Barham - John R. Barham, of Mexia, Texas, passed away on July 14, 2010. He was educated in Mexia and graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Masters of Education. John taught school in Mildred and Mexia for a total of 29 years. He also owned a feed store in Mexia and was a rancher.

Hooper - Arnold Hooper, of Joaquin, Texas, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2010 at the age of 99. He is survived by his wife Annie. In lieu of flowers, family request donations can be made to the Arnold Hooper Scholarship Fund Joaquin Alumni Association, deposits can be made at Texas State Bank.

Dingler - James Edward Dingler passed away on June 15, 2010, in Dallas. He was born July 6, 1945, in Athens, and was a lifelong resident of Henderson County and LaRue area. He was a member of First Assembly of God and a retired teacher with the Brownsboro Independent School District for 28 years. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War.He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed.Survivors include his wife, Mickie Dingler of LaRue; daughters, Melissa Boyd and husband Chris of Chandler, and Anne McIntyre and husband Wade of Brownsboro; brothers, Billy Dingler of Austin and Jimmy Dingler of LaRue; sisters, Nancy Snowden and husband Stanley of Hurst; grandchildren, Charlie Stringer, Chris Stringer, Taylor McIntyre, Madie McIntyre, Emma McIntyre, Jake Boyd and Joey Boyd.  Services were held Friday, June 18, 2010, at First Assembly of God Church, Chandler, with Pastor Mickey Ellis officiating. Burial was in New York Cemetery near LaRue, under direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Assembly of God Chandler Youth Building Fund, 840 N. Parker - Nolan O. Parker, 83, of Stanton, died on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, in a Midland hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 19, 2010, at First Baptist Church with Rev. David Harp, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. He was born on December 1, 1926, in Vera, Texas and married Martha Christine Rankin on December 25,1960, in Amherst, Texas. She preceded him in death on December 22, 2002. Nolan was raised in Benjamin, Texas. He served in the United States Army and later in the United States Air Force. He attended and graduated from Texas A & M University. Nolan taught a Vocational Agricultural classes in Dell City before moving to Stanton in 1961, where he taught until retiring in 1985. He then served as Justice of the Peace for Martin County for eight years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stanton. Survivors include his loving companion, Willa Jo Yater of Stanton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Louis and June Parker of Reno, Nevada and John and Lona Parker of Huntsville, Alabama; five grandchildren, Caleb Parker, Josh Parker and Nathan Parker all of Reno, Nevada, Zoe Parker of Huntsville, Alabama and Kevin Parker of Stephenville; and two sisters, Dorothy West of Dallas and Bonnie Garrett of Lafayette, Louisiana. He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Parker in 1995; and two brothers and one sister. The family suggests memorials be made to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P. O. Barrett - Pat Barrett, 57, of Washington, Texas, passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2010. Pat taught agriculture science at Bovina, Blanco, Coronado and Monterey. He was employed by the Texas Extension Service Fire Safety Unit in College Station. Memorial services are set for Friday, April 9, at Central Baptist Church in College Station and May 1 in Spur.

Bartz - Logan Edward Bartz, 78, of Round Rock, Texas, passed away in his home on March 25, 2010. He was born on July 1, 1931 in Bartlett, Texas, to parents, Ed and Nora Bartz. He grew up on a farm, along with five brothers and five sisters. On December 27, 1955, he married Bonnie Ruth Adams/Arredondo where they settled in Round Rock, Texas, to raise their family. Before retirement Logan loved and was a very active and dedicated Agriculture Teacher in the Hutto, Pflugerville, and Round Rock- Westwood School Districts. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, his sister Ruby Grimmett, and his brothers Edward and Gene Bartz. Logan is survived by his son, Mike Bartz and wife Cindy, of San Marcos; daughter, Susan McLaughlin and husband Richard, of Round Rock; granddaughter, Heather Egbert and husband Trevor; and grandsons, Marty McLaughlin and Tanner and Talon Bartz. He is also survived by sisters, Myrtle Volney, Margie Lovellette, Doris Mosley, Shirley Liles; and brothers, Lester Bartz, Howard Bartz and Kenith Bartz. Logan was a loving and supportive brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed family, dancing, fishing, animals, and being outdoors. Beck Hibbert Beck, 72, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed from this Life to his new Home on Wednesday, March 10, 2010. He was born on October 11, 1937 in Dallas, Texas to Lee and Ima (Hibbert) Beck. He graduated from Ferris High School in 1956. He attended Texas A & M University and received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in education from Sam Houston State College. On February 1, 1957 he married Marylou Cole and they made their home in Huntsville before moving to Palmer in 1960.He taught Agriculture Science for thirty-five years in Palmer and was a custom home builder for fifteen years. He was a member of the Palmer Lions Club for over forty-five years and served in every officer position. He was on the board of directors of: Ennis-Palmer FFA shows, Ellis County Youth Expo Show and Sale, Ellis County Junior Livestock Association, Ellis County Junior Rodeo Association, Rockett SUD, Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas, Palmer Economic Development Council and Texas Modena Club. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Palmer for over fifty years. He is survived by his wife, Marylou Beck; one son Wes Beck and his wife, Lisa of Shamrock; two daughters; Jeannie Lee of Stephenville and Julie Butler and her husband, Ronney of Palmer; six grandchildren: Leslie and Amy Beck, Cassi St. Clair and her husband, Bret, Teresa Lee, Lucas and Mallory Butler; one great grandchild Callee St. Clair: one sister, Gloria Sullivan of Waxahachie and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Estes Parks and her family Bobby, Robby and LeeAnn and one son-in-law David Lee. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 11, 2010 from 6 until 8 p.m. at J.E. Keever Mortuary in Ennis. A Memorial service will be Friday, March 12, 2010 at 3 p.m. in the Palmer High School Gym with a reception to follow under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc. Pall bearers will be Lucas Butler, Bret St Clair, Patrick Sullivan, Jason Toomey, Neal Green and Phillip Green. Honorary pall bearers will be past and present Palmer High School FFA officers. Gipson - John 'Pete' Gipson, 69, passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2010 in Longview. Gipson was an Ag teacher with Harmony ISD before his career with Texas Farm Bureau.
 
Kountz - Lillian Kountz passed away on Monday, January 18, 2010. Lillian was married to Chris Kountz who was the VATAT President from 1983 - 1984. Her services will be held Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.
 
Buford- Lester Buford passed away on Monday November 9, 2009 in Kerrville, Texas. Lester was an Honorary Life member of the VATAT. The service will be graveside at College Station Cemetery on Friday November 13 at 2:00 p.m. 

Amann
- Max Amann, age 91, of Utopia passed away on February 13, 2009 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on November 13, 1917 in San Antonio to Max Walter and Laura Helen Amann. Max was a vocational agriculture teacher in Utopia for 38 years where he taught several father-son combinations, including his own two sons and a nephew. He retired after several successful years of teaching in 1980.
 
Cobb-John Cobb, age 84, of Quinlan passed away Thursday, August 6th at his residence. After receiving his bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State, he took his first teaching job at Bland High School. For over 40 years, he taught school, coached a variety of sports and served in other administrative positions.

Overstreet-Neil was the son of Wilburn and Ruby Overstreet, born 3/30/42 in Gorman, Texas. He attended Tarleton State College for two years and graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1964 with a BS in Agricultural Education, later completing a Masters of Education and Vocational Supervisor Certification. He taught Vocational Agriculture for 13 years at Madisonville High School before he joined IMS (Instructional Materials Service) at Texas A&M University as a curriculum specialist. He served as Associate Professor and Coordinator of IMS from 1990 until his retirement in 1997. His entire career was devoted to Agricultural Education as a high school teacher, trainer of teachers, and a writer and developer of teaching materials for agriculture and science teachers in Texas and the nation. He was recognized for distinguished service by both FFA and Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas. More important to him were the relationships with students, fellow teachers, State staff, and fellow employees at TAMU. He was known both as a leader and team player, always dependable and knowledgeable, and one you wanted on your side whether at work or play. 
 

 
Ordeneaux - Roddy Ordeneaux, 66, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2011. Roddy was a retired Pearland ISD agricultural science teacher, and he was an Honorary Life member of the VATAT. Roddy started the agricultural program at Pearland High School, and he was also one of the founders of the Pearland Alvin Youth Fair with the mission of giving all students the opportunity to raise money for next year's projects. The visitation for Roddy will be held Monday, March 7, 2011 from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 6:00 P.M. in C.A. Nelson Auditorium with a BBQ reception following. Please no coats, no ties, boots and jeans preferred.

 
Wilton - Thomas Andrew (T.A.) Wilton, Jr., 66, passed away on April 28, 2011 in Brownwood, Texas. Wilton was an agricultural education teacher in Marlin, Texas for 27 years. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made in T.A.'s honor to the Ronald McDonald House, a place near and dear to his heart.
 
Tanksley - Dr. T. D. Tanksley, Jr., 86, passed away on April 12, 2011 peacefully, at his ranch home in Bertram, Texas.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 14, Edgar Funeral Home, 109 North Main, Burnet, Texas.  The service will be held on Friday, April 15 at the First Baptist Church, 310 South Gabriel in Bertram, Texas, at 10 a.m.  Burial to follow in Mt. Wunderlich - Ronald K. Wunderlich, 63, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Visitation will be from 3 pm until 9 pm at Zoeller Funeral Home in New Braunfels, Texas on Sunday April 10, 2011 with the family present to receive visitors from 3 pm until 6 pm. Funeral services will be Monday, April 11, 2011 at 10 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Braunfels.  Service will conclude at the church. Wunderlich was an Honorary Life member of the VATAT.
 
Wilks - Dennis Wilks, 76, passed away March 29, 2011 in Amarillo, Texas. Dennis taught Vocational Agriculture for 32 years, 9 in Wheeler, Texas and 23 years in Tulia. He was associated with the Swisher County Stock Show for 44 years, an FFA advisor, Adult Leader and Stock Show Announcer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 31, 2011 in the First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Memorials may be made to the Texas Tech Foundation, Ag. Ed.
