Weighted Funding Formula

Formula for Estimating a District's State Career and Technology Weighted Funding Allotment

State Career and Technology Weighted Funding Formula:

Career and Technology Allotment = FTE X AA  or ABA X 1.35

Where

  • FTE = 30 contact hours per week X number of weeks in school year
    (1 FTE is 36 weeks (180 days) X   30 = 1080 contact hours)
  • ABA = Adjusted Basic Allotment
  • AA = Adjusted Allotment is for small districts and is calculated after the district has an ABA
  • AA or ABA information may be obtained by visiting this web page: http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/school.finance/funding/sofweb7.html . To find your AA or ABA, locate the "Summary of Finances" box corresponding to the year you are requesting. (For the current year, it doesn't matter which of the three reports you choose). Enter your six-digit county-district number in the box and press the "enter" key on your keyboard. The AA and ABA numbers are listed on page 2 of the printout.
  • 1.35 is the funding weight given for 1 FTE in Career and Technology Education

FTE conversion:

Student in l hour class for 180 days = 1/6 or .167 FTE
Student in 2 hour class for 180 days = 1/3 or .333 FTE
Student in 3 hour class for 180 days = ½ or .5 FTE

Example:

For this example, the ABA is $4,800

Number of l hour students (75) attending 180 days X .167

75 X .167 = 12.525

Number of 2 hour students (21) attending 180 days X .33

21 X .333 = 6.993

Number of 3 hour students (18) attending 180 days X .5

18 X .5 = 9.000

Total FTEs

26.511

FTEs (26.511) X .95 (to allow for absences) =

25.19

FTE (25.19) X ABA ($4,800) X 1.35 =

$163,231

60% must be spent on the program(s) that generated the funds.

40% can be spent at the school district's discretion.
